As I lay awake at night staring at the ceiling/I imagine myself in your arms/but I can’t help but ask you/why would you love me/in such a way to give your Son/you whisper me the answer/though I do not understand it/you tell me it is because you love me/and even though I don’t comprehend it/you show me love anyway/

The look in your eye/tells me the reason why/you sent your son to die/because of your compassion/your love, mercy and grace/God you show me love in ways/I don’t deserve/and you come through in situations/I don’t look for you in/I am so grateful that you love me/just the way I am/

Your eyes have shown me compassion/your hands have shown me grace/your nailed pierced body has shown me love/and I have been looking to other places/to find my worth and satisfaction/but you don’t love me any less/I want to give you everything/without holding anything back/

Your mercy has consumed me/because I realize that I am nothing without you/Lord I want to be like you/but I know each time I try/living life on my own/I cannot help myself/but I fall flat on my face/because I am beginning to understand/what it means to be a child of the king/

If you could paint a picture/what colors would you use/to shade the many shadows/if you could portray an image/of what you mean to God/would you be able to draw/a cross with Jesus bleeding love/cannot explain the love of my Father/On Calvary God gave us life/when the Romans shouted die/

Would your eyes tear up/when you had breathed your last breath/if you knew that I spit in your face/but I am thankful for this thing called grace/you have been so good/and you gave me life/when I shouted with my actions/I didn’t want anything to do with you/but you chose to love me anyway/

If you could love me/enough to die for me/would I learn what it means to be free/I cry myself to sleep/because I realize I have been accepted/a glimpse of your majesty/would make me fall to my knees/and I have seen you/in my hard times/and if you could teach me/what you want/I would listen/

If you tried to explain to me/the reason that you love me/would I begin to comprehend/I cannot believe my ears/and my actions against you/have brought me to tears/yet you still want to know me/when I am trying to run away/each time I try to come back to you/I fall away again/into my same old sin.
