I am longing to be beautiful to someone
But this rose I offer to you has many thorns
I know that you can make me beautiful and I know you have
Placed these thorns in my life to bring me closer to you

I understand that I need thorns in my life so you can refine me
And I know that each time that I am pricked you teach me something

I cannot believe you give me life when I pierced you with my thorns

Verse 1:
I understand that my father makes me beautiful
And this world has many thorns it tries to stick me with
I cannot believe I give you my thorns and you bless with me life
This is so unfathomable to me because I offer you my pain

Verse 2:
I know that you rose from the dead and on the cross the rose was trampled on
But something I cannot imagine is that you will bring me closer to you through thorns
I don’t know why it would take my beautiful savior to die on the cross and
I don’t want you to take away the thorns because I am understanding what it meant for

Pre Chorus:
Only in America would we say that there is no one needing salvation
And only in America would we evangelize to our people and would let the world fall
How then can we read what Jesus tells us in His Holy word
Then turn around and ignore the very thing He has called us to do?

Chorus:
The harvest is ripe but the workers are few and while Christ was on the cross He was thinking of you.
God has given us His message for us to obey
And yet so many people say I’ll tell them some other day
Is this the attitude of a servant of the call who gives up His life for another and lets Jesus do it all.

Verse 1:
Who will tell the nations about what God did for them
Who will stand up for the faith even if it may cost them all they have
God is calling us as His workers to answer the call
I cannot watch this world taking yet another fall

Verse 2:
The harvest is ready but they do not know for what
People to tell them about the life transforming message the gospel of the cross
It is not our own as many think it is, but it is God working through us that brings
honor and glory to His name.

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matt 9:37-38 (NIV)

Pre Chorus:
I see this world falling away from the way we used to be
I cannot believe this is the state this world’s in oh Lord please help them see
That there is more to life than living for earthly possessions
I don’t know why people seem so blinded to the truth

My heart breaks so much to a point where I cannot go to sleep
And I am resting in your arms and I pray that tonight you sustain me
I pray that you would reveal to me your heart for the nations
So that they may see your works and glorify you

My heart breaks because I cannot comprehend the end for those who have never heard
The love the father has given to us and I want to share with the world that God cares
For each and everyone of us and there is a reason that I cannot go to sleep
Because my heart breaks for the broken, dazed and confused

My heart needs to break all the more when I see the people who have never heard
The more I see the lost, the more my heart breaks for the people and I can never understand
Your heart for the nations that would lead you to sacrifice your one and only son
I think to myself can I find my rest in you and do I have the joy of the Lord

There are times when I close off my heart and let no one know what is going on
I am afraid there is pain that goes too deep for others to ever understand
I cannot believe the healing that has happened because I have opened up to others
The friendships that I’ve been blessed with I will remember to open up

Chorus:
Open up my eyes so I can share experiences with others
To be able to minister to others through what you’ve taught me
I need to open up to the one who created me, because even if I try to hide you will find it
I know that opening up may be hard at times but I believe we need to do it

We can continue to hold it in and be all broken and confused and let no one inside our secret hell
When we open up and make ourselves vulnerable I believe God can provide healing
You need to use care about who you open up to and I learned a lesson the hard way
I feel each time I keep things on the inside it is another second the devil is stealing

Open up my eyes Lord so I can bless people with my experiences so that you may be glorified
And help me never forget to speak openly about the one who came to died
I cannot believe the man you have created me to because I feel unworthy but I know you are worthy of so much more than what I can give

A song written because I have realized I need to open up with others and that keeping it all in will simply kill me.

I examine my life and I look at the things that I’ve grabbed a hold of
I sometimes wonder if the things I am holding are worth letting go of
There are many things that I’ve taken hold of and I find them really hard to let go of
Holding on to things that have prevented me from growing close to you

I long to grab a hold of your infinite love you have for me and never let go
I want to let you hold my life as I learn to let you hold me
There are lots of things I need to let go of and I have learned that as I let you have control
One of the hardest things is letting go of everything that doesn’t bring you glory and honor

You have taken a hold of my life but I find it hard to let go
It is easy to give you things that I want to give you
But it is really hard to let go of the things I’ve tried to hide from you for so long
I am beginning to see that my sinful ways are wrong and going to lead me to destruction

Holding onto you is my only way of surviving this world I live in
I want to give you my entire life all I am and all my secrets I don’t know where to begin
I never will let go of you and I know you will never let me fall and slip away
I need you to grace me with your presence and I cannot believe you love me the way I am

I have heard it said to live is to die and to die is to live
But I have given my all and I have nothing left to give
To die to myself is really a strange thing to imagine
How I can find my value when I let you crucify my sinful nature

I choose to die to myself so I may live for you
I understand the meaning of this upside down kingdom but it doesn’t make it easy
There are times to die and times to live but I want to die for what you lived for
Bringing glory to you with my life in everything I say or do

I never know why I choose to live for the things that will kill me
And I cannot understand what it means to truly live through death
So I am asking for you to teach me what it means to crucify the old self
And teach me what is like to live free from captivity to sin

I’ve messed up so many times before that I know I have so many more things that need crucified
I know that you placed me a here for a reason
I know what you want from me in order for me to follow you
There is no reason to live for myself any longer

As I look upon the cross I begin to see what my sin cost you
Because of the sacrifice you made for me I want to let you know I love you
Not because I deserve the love you offered me but because of my unworthiness
When I see the love you have for your people, I want the cross to sustain me

The cross has spoken so much love, mercy and grace over me I am amazed
The cross you died upon has brought healing to my life and I can see the love
I don’t know how to thank you, but I want to take up my cross each and every day
I know it will be you who rescues me and raises me from the dark and dreary tomb

The cross means so much to me because it has shown me the meaning of sacrifice
The power of death has no hold on me because I have risen up with you and defeated it
At the foot of the cross is where I come and lay all my pain and burdens down
I want to see you in your glory and I want your name to be made great through out

This is not about me but I want you to know that I love you
I cannot sit around and pretend the cross didn’t happen because I have seen you bleed forgiveness
I cannot see how you made such a sacrifice for me when I didn’t even know you
And I don’t know why you sent your son to die on the cross and came looking for the lost

I cannot grasp with this finite mind of mine how you could love me because I was lost
You knew what it would take but you said it was worth the cost

I can’t remember the things that are really important and I don’t prioritize
