Through the desert

Written as a reflection of when I feel so far from God

Through the desert when my mouth is thirsty will I ever see the grass again
My journey has been winding, but through the desert you have brought me peace
My desert seems so desolate because I have refused to drink your word
My hands are scorched because this life isn’t what I had imagined

Through the desert, a river awaits me
Through the desert, a valley is waiting to consume me but you will keep me safe
Through the desert, I sometimes wait for night but I know it will be a season
Through the desert, choices are made, and I choose to trust you with my deserts

Soak my life in the love that runs through your river of everlasting life
Capture my mind when I feel so far away, remind me of what is true
Trying to make it on my own, because I think the blessings you have given me I earned
I will walk through the desert if it means that you will refine me

Trying to remember your goodness to me
Trying to remember your greatness is not a match for sin
Trying to remember your mercy is a gift
Trying to remember your grace extended to me
