Sitting in the hospital I tried to be accessible when I was needed
Sitting by the bedside, listening to the monitors as you drifted in and out
Sleeping on the windowsill downtown, waiting for an update from the doctor
Sitting in the waiting room, I had to update your family about your situation
I tried my best to make you feel safe
I tried my best to make you feel loved
I tried my best to make you feel comfortable
I tried my best to make you feel better
I tried everything to show you
None of my love was accepted or returned
None of the tears that I cried at night were reciprocated
None of the feelings came back reminding me when we dated once so long ago
I tried to get through your shell I realize now you were living hell
I tried to understand what it must be like to not be able to move
I tried to get my mind around what it meant for me to be there
